New Web service Alerts.com sends gas-price updates, traffic alerts, baseball scores, and more to your cell phone or inbox. The free service currently offers about a dozen alert choices, including a “free form” alert that lets you send yourself a reminder or any other tidbit of information at a designated time.
The most practical alerts for business users include gas prices, wake-up calls, traffic alerts, and flight/hotel price searches. It’s a snap to set these up via the Alerts.com site, which is also where you register for your account and enable message receipt via phone and/or e-mail. (Note that your carrier’s standard SMS rates apply if you opt for alerts via text message.)
Though technically in beta, Alerts.com looks plenty polished already. Definitely a service worth checking out.
